Fayetteville Film Fest announces 2021 line-up

by
Kody Ford

The Fayetteville Film Fest Board is excited to announce the thirteenth annual Fayetteville Film Fest to be held November 11-13, 2021. This year's festival will be a hybrid event, combining live and in-person screenings with online streaming presenting 10 narrative and documentary feature films, along with more than 40 short films. In-person screenings will take place at the University of Arkansas Global Campus theater and the Pryor Center on Fayetteville’s historic town square. This year, the festival program will culminate in a Best of the Fest event at the Walton Arts Center on Sunday, November 14th. The festival organizers will be taking extra precautions in light of the ongoing COVID pandemic and will require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours for admission to any indoor, in-person events. For those unable to meet those requirements or are otherwise unable to attend, the festival will also stream most of the programming – including four feature films only available online – direct and on-demand to your home from Sunday, November 14 through Sunday, November 21.

In addition to the impressive lineup of films, the festival will also feature panel discussions and Q&A sessions with the filmmakers, many of which will be available on the streaming platform as well.

This year’s fest will also feature the fourth annual Fayetteville Film Prize pitch contest.  This exciting and unique competition includes an online pitch event where contestants have 5 minutes to pitch their best film idea to a panel of judges. The winner of the FAYETTEVILLE FILM PRIZE will receive a cash prize of $2000 to enable them to execute their film. The winner will have 10 months to shoot their film in Northwest Arkansas and the finished film will screen at the 2022 Fayetteville Film Fest. The winners from the past two years of film prizes – Johannah Orwiler and Reed Cash Carson – will screen their short films, Glass Cages and Good Gorgeous Hell, during this year’s festival. To register to pitch for the Fayetteville Film Prize, filmmakers are encouraged to visit fayettevillefilmfest.org.

Passes and advance individual tickets for the 2021 Fayetteville Film Fest go on sale Monday, October 11th. Passes range from All-Access VIP Passes at $80 to Student passes at $25, with individual tickets to select screenings priced at $8 each.  Select online screenings will be available beginning November 11 through the Eventive streaming platform, accessible through the festival website: fayettevillefilmfest.org. Online programming will premiere on a rolling basis from November 11 to 13 with the full program available on-demand until November 21. Online-only tickets will be available on a pay-what-you-can model, including a free option for those unable to contribute. All proceeds will support the organization’s year-round programming and Micheaux Award and Film Lab which engages and supports filmmakers of color throughout the state and surrounding region.

At  ACS, we believe that if we provide filmmakers an arena to exhibit their talents, and film enthusiasts a healthy diet of quality programming, we can inspire more Arkansans to make and watch more films. By supporting filmmakers, festivals, theaters and young people interested in filmmaking throughout the state, we hope to create statewide network, pool Arkansas’s resources and be an umbrella organization that feeds all things film. We believe a rising tide lifts all boats.

connect to create.

To be a filmmaker, we have to connect to create. A painter needs a brush, paint and a canvas. A director needs a writer, a cinematographer, a sound mixer, production designer, editor, actors, distributors, and an audience. We cannot do it alone. This art form forces one to collaborate and thus, creates jobs. Filmmaking is unique in the arts in this way. It takes an army.
