“From Set to Screen: Art Department Essentials” is a four-session course exploring the creative backbone of a film’s visual world. Through weekly deep dives into set design and dressing, wardrobe and costumes, props and special effects, and hair and makeup, students will gain an understanding of how each discipline collaborates to shape story, character, and tone on screen. Each session features an industry professional sharing real-world experience, practical workflows, and behind-the-scenes insight into their craft. We will break down visual choices from film and TV shows, and discuss on-set collaboration. This class invites students to better understand not just what the art department does, but how its many moving parts work together to support narrative and elevate a production.

This class is for anyone in the creative pipeline—directors, producers, writers, designers, film enthusiasts, and aspiring crew members—interested in the collaborative, hands-on artistry that brings cinematic worlds to life.
